Manufacturer Description
Like a pair of sunglasses, a polarizing filter reduces by a factor of two the amount of light passing through an eyepiece and into your eye. Reducing image brightness can help improve contrast in terrestrial viewing and imaging, especially in daytime photography. A polarizer also helps when viewing the Moon and planets by reducing brightness and glare to make it easier to see fine detail. It can also make it easier to split bright binary stars in dark sky by reducing glare and diffraction rings around the brighter star of the binary pair.
This GSO polarizer maintains true color balance by reducing the brightness of all colors of the optical spectrum. While the amount of light blocked by a single polarizer is fixed, this polarizer can be stacked with a second polarizer to create a rotatable variable polarizer for less money than a dedicated variable polarizer. Has a standard 1.25" male filter thread (M28.5x0.6) on one side and a female thread on the other side, so you can stack this filter with other 1.25" filters.
The filter comes in a protective plastic storage box. Made by GSO in Taiwan.

two filters to rule the planets and moon
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased two of these filters to use on the planets and the moon. One on the diagonal and one on the eyepiece allows fine tuning of the brightness levels. These are well made and the threads are smooth. A lot of visual impact for a little price.

Apr 2, 2018As expected
Pros: Cons: Comments:Ordered two to make an adjustable moon filter. Added some PFTE thread tape to one set of threads to tighten up the fit. I'm quite happy with them.

Nov 30, 2017Good filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:It is a basic polarizing filter for a good price. If you want a variable filter you must buy another one to get the property.

Dec 24, 2016good price & works
Pros: Cons: Comments:Not much to say, price is good and it polarizes light. Using for on a microscope, not astronomy, but I'm sure it will work there too.

Oct 9, 2016I would buy this product again
Pros:Compact,Strong Construction,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Only used it a couple of times, but it seems very good quality, so, for the price, it's a bargain.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
If you want to experiment a little bit with polarizer on the Moon or other objects, you will probably not find better choice of a cheap model. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 2, 2016Would buy again.
Pros:Accurate,Compact,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons:Unstable
Comments:It works very good, but is too easy to move out of set position when adjusting Lens. That's very bad when photographing the Sun! Found that a wide rubber band around it works great.

Oct 6, 2015Great value!
Pros:Value,Quality
Cons: Comments:I have several GSO filters that I use for solar viewing with a TV85 and Lunt wedge. They all work great and are a good value. I prefer the GSO polarizer over the Lumicon.

Mar 30, 2015Effective Solar Dimmer
Pros: Cons: Comments:I use this to dim the brightness of the solar disk when viewed through a Herschel wedge. Since the light output from this prism is polarized, only a single polarizing filter is necessary. I find that this filter is more effective than using an ND filter.

Feb 21, 2015Inexpensive and Well-Constructed
Pros:Easy to Use,Accurate,Compact,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:You will not find a better example of low cost/high quality than this. If you own a binocular viewer, buy three of these and place one in front of the nosepiece of the bino-viewer and the other two in front of your eyepieces. Turn both of your eyepieces the same amount, and you have variable polarizarion while viewing through your bino-viewer.

Feb 8, 2014These are Great!
Pros:Lightweight,Compact,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I got two of the GSO Polarizing Filters to use for Star observing. I'm sure they will help in being able to separate Double Stars. I like the quality and price of GSO products.

Jan 6, 2014Eye saver for best price
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I bought a pair of these for variable polarizing filter. Transmission is set by turning a filter with respect to the other. It works very well on moon which can be annoying after quarter. It is solid and well made.

Sep 27, 2013A Fine Lunar Filter
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons:None
Comments:I've been stargazing for 40+ years. I've seen lots of filters, and this one is high quality at a very good price. It attenuates moonlight to 13% transmission, which is the most comfortable for most people. (I do a lot of public stargazing presentations.) It has clear high quality glass and an evenly distributed filtering. It does not affect focus. Good solid build, with a strong cell. Threads easily onto eyepieces. Could be used for astrophography to increase contrast, but exposure times must be compensate.

Dec 11, 2012Great Value
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I purchased this to use as a variable Moon filter with another polarizing filter I already had. Great value. Does what it's supposed to do.

Jun 30, 2012Very good quality.
Pros:Lightweight,Compact,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:It's a MUST have, when observing the Moon .
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I bought two of them as suggested. With one installed at the diagonal and the other at the eyepiece: it's easy to find the desirable brightness by just turning the eyepiece. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Jun 29, 2012Fantastic product at good price
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons:None
Comments:I bought this filter primarily to use in splitting double stars with a very bright primary. I tried it on Antares in Scorpius using my small refractor and mid-low magnification. With the filter attached to the eyepiece, I slowly began to rotate the eyepiece in the diagonal and could see the glare from the primary reducing and intensifying. With the glare reduced I could see the secondary star well, which I could not without the filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This filter is very well constructed and I could not find anything to fault. The images are excellent and the glare reduction is subtle but very noticeable. I really like this filter and recommend it - great bang for the buck! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 31, 2011Great for daytime moon viewing
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight,Compact
Cons: Comments:I use this with a 900mm ED refractor (900mm FL), typically on a 13mm Orion Stratus eyepiece. As you go from late afternoon to early evening, the filter darkens the background sky from blue-purple to nearly black, resulting in great detail on the moon.

Mar 10, 2010Well, its do the job.
Pros:Quality Lenses, Strong Construction.
Cons:None
Comments:I purchased two of these to make a one variable filter. It works fine and cost 2/3 of a variable filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I use for Moon watch, this filter block some luminosity. If you attach two filter on the eyepiece and rotate the last filter you make a variable filter. Can you block more or less luminosity when you turn 90° (1/4 lap). Perfect for watch full moon. Now I can watch for long time, before this filter I can't watch more than 30 seconds before hurt my eyes.
For terrestrial use, one filter block the reflection on the water surface so it is possible take a picture of the fishes. Maybe reduce reflection in other surfaces.
Note: Every observation have a full aperture. I have an 8" (200 mm ) reflector.
