Manufacturer Description
Since their introduction in the US market a few years ago, the GSO SuperView series of wide-field eyepieces have taken the amateur astronomy community by storm. These are, by far, the best-selling GSO eyepieces. With an expansive apparent field of view (AFOV) ranging from 60 - 68 degrees, users will experience incredible views without breaking the bank or impinging on your scope's balance. SuperView eyepieces are available in 2 barrel sizes (1.25" or 2') and 5 focal lengths (ranging from 15mm to 50mm).
Images are virtually free of chromatic aberration or pincushion distortion with excellent flatness of field and eye relief. These eyepieces feature rubber grips on the housing and foldable rubber eyeguards. All eyepieces are fully multicoated, have blackened lens edges for improved contrast, and come with two end caps.
Guan Sheng is a leader in optical telescopes and accessories and their products have been sold for years by the "Big Three" (Meade, Celestron and Orion) under their own brand names. Give these a try - you will not be disappointed!

Jan 23, 2019GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 50mm
Pros: Cons: Comments:I'm using a Bresser Messier NT-130/1000 converted to use 2" eyepieces. The best thing I can say about my new GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 50mm is WOW, what a difference. I'll be using this a lot.

Dec 16, 2018Great Buy for Some Scopes, but...
Pros: Cons: Comments:I have owned several GSO Superview EP's, and they all are excellent value. However, on an 8" SCT I found this to be too long a focal length EP as it was next to impossible to place the eye in the right position before losing sections to blackouts. When I was able to temporarily position myself to get a full view, the image was very good, much better than price would indicate. I would highly recommend their Superview 42mm as the lowest usable magnification in a similar SCT.

Dec 13, 2018The eye placement is terrible
Pros: Cons: Comments:The eye release is too long. You have to really lean back to see anything. However, the rubber eye guard is not tall enough to protect you from stray light. Very poor design!

Aug 14, 2018GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 50mm
Pros: Cons: Comments:I actually purchased the GSO 2” - 30mm, 42mm, and 50mm eyepiece set from Agena. After using them
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
on my Explore Scientific 127mm refractor I was thrilled with the clear wide angle views I was able to experience with each. Eye relief is excellent. I highly recommend all of these eyepieces if your looking for great value and quality.

Jan 30, 2018Solid and light
Pros: Cons: Comments:My 40mm William Optics SWAN 2" eyepiece is heavier and bigger than this GSO 50mm. I really enjoy the view from this wide-view eyepiece. I use it without problems in my Explore Scientific 2" diagonal. I have used it in an ST80 f/4.4 refractor and my 127mm achromat. I certainly recommend this eyepiece for wide views. I view from a light-polluted suburb of Los Angeles, and it works just fine.

Sep 26, 2017GSO 2" SuperView 50mm eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:It is an excellent piece of optics, highly recommended. The only issue is the long eye relief, which takes some getting used to.

Jan 19, 2017GSO 50mm Super view 2"
Pros: Cons: Comments:Construction is typical generic eyepiece of good quality. Eye lens is large and with a deep green coating, looks good. I like the smooth barrel which slides easily in and out of the diagonal. Views through my AR152 achromat are sharp edge to edge.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The bad news is the AFOV, which is far from the advertised 60 degrees. Using planetarium software and extensive observation of several objects, I have determined that the real AFOV of this eyepiece is about 40 degrees. It yields about two degrees in the f6.5, 6in refractor.
I feel good with the eyepiece because it has very good eye relief, but the AFOV on the description is not correct. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 29, 2016Excellent quality for the price
Pros: Cons: Comments:I use 2 " eyepieces almost exclusively. I started out with 25, 30 and 35mm sizes and found that with a good quality Barlow, the 25 especially was suitable for both solar system and deep sky viewing. I use the 30 and 35 for clusters. I decided I needed a couple more sizes and I bought the 50 and 42 mm GSOs. With a very nice 60 degree FOV the GSO 50 gives an amazing complete view of M45. These eyepieces are very clear and bright from the center all the way to the edge with maybe a little variance from that right at the edge. My test of the GSOs was to view M45, 38, 37, 36 and 35. The results: clear, bright images with nice pinpoints of light. For me, I feel I can't do better for the price. The build quality appears to be very good. The eyepieces are light weight when compared to the other 2 inch eyepieces I have, but for me, what matters in the end, is what I can see with them. The seeing with the GSOs is excellent.

Dec 26, 2016GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 50mm
Pros: Cons: Comments:The EP is excellent !! I am using it with a Celestron 150mm reflector, just what I wanted for larger FOVs. Good quality and price too.

Jan 23, 2016GSO 2'' Superview 50mm review
Pros:Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Eye Relief
Cons:None
Comments:This is turning out to be my favorite low power eyepiece. The nice wide field, great eye relief and vivid colors make it a joy to use. The coatings offer the best color rendition of any of the eyepieces I own. I use it with a 20'' f5 scope for fantastic low power 59x wide field viewing of nebulas and globular clusters. I have many more expensive eyepieces but I now use this one eyepiece more than the others combined. I love this eyepiece!

Mar 31, 2015Plenty to like about this Eyepiece
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons:Heavy
Comments:Great eyepiece for the price. 68 degree viewing with plenty of eye relief. The barrel accepts a screw in filter or the 1.5X barlow lens from GSO which adds to it's versatility. I have better lenses that cost 2X - 3X more but they offer only 10% better views.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
When I attend the monthly Star Parties offered to the public by our Astronomy Club, this is the eyepiece I bring. It usually get's more compliments than any other eyepiece and if it get's a fingerprint, I just clean it with a lens wipe. No problems. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Sep 21, 2012Very good, quality and value
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:Very surprised by quality and value - Good wide field lens for use with my 14 inch Celestron CGEM DX 1400 Edge HD. A good buy and, as with all GSO products, it's high quality at low price. The glass and coatings are all first rate.

Feb 11, 2010Wide angle, perhaps too wide for some?
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons:Very wide angle
Comments:The 50mm is the 'big daddy' of the GSO Superview eyepiece range, the smaller members being the 42mm, 30mm 2" and the 20mm and 15mm 1.25". As such, it is really intended as a 'finder' eyepiece, or for use with very long focal length scopes only.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I used this on a C11 (2.8m focal length) scope, and even at F/10 it is pushing the limits of the optics. The central obstruction can become visible and cause significant blackout, and the wide angle is very dependent on the eye-relief distance. However, this EP could work very well on a C14, where the longer focal length is more accommodating. Although I haven't tried it I would suspect it would also probably make a good match as a wide angle eyepiece for a 16" Dobsonian.
In general, this is a high quality eyepiece, but beware that it may be application-specific depending on the design of your scope. Still, a good buy and as with all GSO equipment it's high quality at low price. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 19, 2010Perfect addition to anyone's collection
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:This lens is great for finding and centering an object precisely in my scope. It's the first one I choose when setting up for a long night of picture taking.

Dec 10, 2009Great wide field eyepiece with an SCT!
Pros:Great Value
Cons:None with an SCT
Comments:Good wide field lens for use with my 10 inch SCT, a modified Meade LX50 EMC. Although it's not the brightest lens on the market, it produces a good flat-field image. Most of the Orion nebula is visible with virtually no aberations as one views from the center to the edge of the image.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Absolutely no problems focusing with or without my 2" Antares diagonal on the SCT.
This is not true with my 3 inch refractor, a StellarView AT1010. The lens is usable and provides an extremely wide view. However an extension must be used with a diagonal to achieve focus and their is visible aberation toward the edge of the image.
Overall a great SCT wide-field low-power eyepiece. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 4, 2009Great eyepiece for the price
Pros:Beautiful wide field views, lightweight, very reasonable cost.
Cons:None
Comments:I purchased this eyepiece from Agena Astro about 9 months. I had already had experience with a similar 40mm eyepiece and really enjoyed the nice widefield views. With my Celestron 80ED refractor (F7.5) and my Celestron 100ED refractor (F9), I see very little coma. A free plastic bolt case was included at no extra cost.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesJun 7, 2009Great Deal
Pros:Great Coatings
Cons:Loooong Eye Relief,Blackouts
Comments:Decent quality and value. Blackouts could be a problem for novices or children due to an amazing amount of eye relief inherent to the design. The 42mm SuperView is a little better optically and provides almost the same true field, but the 50mm is much brighter. I own the entire set of SuperViews and am pleased with each. The glass and coatings are all first rate.

Feb 2, 2009Not bad for the price!
Pros:Light weight,Nice glass and coatings,Nice wide FOV
Cons:A little blackout effect
Comments:I have had the GSO 50mm Super View eyepiece for 3 years and have really enjoyed it. It is a decent 5 element 2" eyepiece, and it has a very nice feel. The construction of the eyepiece is good and rugged, yet it is light for an eyepiece of its size. The optics are quite good and the coatings look very good with no flaws. I use it in my Discovery 12.5" f/5 dob and it performs pretty well. Eye relief was comfortable enough to use with my glasses on. Amazingly I get good pinpoint star images across the entire FOV except at the very edge. When using this eyepiece I have to hold my eye back farther than I am used to or I get a little blackout, but it is not bad. I have used this eyepiece in a C14 also and with the slower optics this eyepiece did a really nice job, and got some good compliments from some of my club members. I mainly use it at star parties since it has such a wide field of view. The FOV is nice and I can get M31, M32 & M110 all in the same view. I mainly recommend this for scopes slower than f/8 and it is a good all around wide FOV eyepiece.
