Manufacturer Description

Announcing the Self-Centering Camera T-Adapter for Astrophotographers. The Self-Centering Adapter (SCA) mechanism provides repeatable and reliable connection between your telescope and the camera. The SCA T-Adapter fits any make telescope that uses a 2" focuser or visual back. Use your existing T-Ring matches your brand of camera and thread onto the SCA T-Adapter.

The HoTech SCA T-Adapter Brings your Camera to the Closest Optical Axis in the Drawtube/Visual back for BEST Imaging Result
To capture great images from your telescope, it is essential to position your camera firmly in and on the optical axis of your drawtube/visual back. The SCA T-Adapter center loads your camera in the drawtube/visual back with a simple threading of a compression ring forcing the built-in rubber rings outward radially, thereby centering the camera in the drawtube/visual back for optimal installation.

Eliminates Drawtube/Visual Back Slop
All drawtube/visual back have manufacturing tolerances. And it requires larger diameter to accept various eyepieces and adapters. When the camera adapter is inserted, the gap between the drawtube/visual back and the inserting device became a slop problem. The rubber rings in the SCA expand radially according to users own adjustment to fill the gaps. This makes your camera seats firmly in your drawtube/visual back becoming part of your telescope for a secure and repeatable installation.

Eliminates unstable locking from thumbscrew or unified compression ring
The optical axis is shifted when the inserting device is locked in by thumbscrew. In some cases, a poorly made unified compression ring can cause an unstable tilt when locking in the drawtube due to loose tolerances between the compression ring, inner groove, and the uneven tip of the locking thumbscrew in a drawtube. The SCA T-Adapter adapts your camera without using the thumbscrew or the unified compression ring.

Accepts the Imperfection of a Drawtube/Visual Back
Small imperfection inside the drawtube like dents and scratches, the rubber rings fill the gaps and faithfully centers your camera in the tube. In addition, even if the drawtube is slightly deformed in diameter, egg-shape, the rubber rings in the SCA will compensate the differences and faithfully centers your camera.

SCA Profile Prevents Oscillation
Short profile design keeps the installed camera stable from low frequency oscillation transferred from the telescope in a windy environment. The back focus of a 2" SCA T-Adapter is 19mm (0.75") measured from drawtube shoulder to the bottom T-Thread.

Damps Vibration
The all-around adjustable tightness rubber contact damps unwanted vibrations from the telescope provides you a sturdy attachment on your telescope for a stable image capture.

Accepts Filter Thread
2" T-Adapter has a built-in 2" (48mm; M48x0.75) filter thread.

      5.0 SCA T-Adapter

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Comments:

This a quality well-made piece of equipment for DSLR astrophotography. The brass compression ring not helps hold the camera in place but guarantees it will be well-centered thus taking full advantage of your telescope/camera pairing.
This is, for me, a must-have useful accessory.

      4.0 Nicely Made

      Pros:

      Lightweight,Accurate,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Difficult to Use

      Comments:

I purchased this adapter to attach a USB filter wheel to my 2" focuser. Given sufficient back focus, this adapter would work very well for that purpose.

However, I have not been able to get the hang of utilizing the centering feature. The knurled ring that you twist is a little difficult for me to grasp for some reason and I cannot tell for certain if I have centered the accessory. One other consideration is that this adapter adds about 12mm to the light path due to the centering ring. So if you have tight back focus limits, this might not work for you. I had to purchase a different adapter because that 12mm extra would not allow me to achieve focus with the filter wheel in place.

But for any other purpose, such as attaching a camera to your 2" focuser, this is a well made product that I would definitely recommend.

5.0 Great for DSLR Imaging At Prime Focus

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Compact,Accurate

      Cons:

      Comments:

I use this SCA primarily for connecting my DSLR for use at prime focus with refractors, both solar and stellar. I recommend it highly for this purpose for any astrophotographer. The adapter holds the camera solidly and the self-centering feature is a bonus feature for proper alignment with the optical axis.

      4.0 Best accesory for astrophotography

      Pros:

      Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

I don't know how I imaged before this product. My photography gear is stable as a rock and centered at the focuser. If you unscrew the camera from the adapter then at the next imaging session, provided you have accurate polar alignment, then image rotation will be minimal and not visible. The only drawback that you may take into consideration is that in order to rotate the camera you must loosen a bit the adaptor and rotate the whole imaging setup but considering the fact that the camera is in place without any flexure you can overlook it. Before you buy it make sure you have enough backfocus at the focuser. In conclusion it's a great product and I would definetly recommend it to any astophotographer
