Manufacturer Description
Kokusai Kohki continues the tradition of offering the highest quality Japanese made Orthoscopic eyepieces with the introduction of their brand new FUJIYAMA HD-OR eyepiece lineup. Fujiyama HD-ORs are hand crafted at their Tokyo factory and individually inspected before shipping.
Named after the Japanese name for that sky reaching symbol of Japan - Mt. Fuji - the FUJIYAMA HD-ORs come standard with multicoatings on all air to glass surfaces (cemented lens surfaces are uncoated), giving them extended light throughput, and brighter images overall, as compared to Kokusai Kohki's previous volcano-top OR eyepiece lineup. And all lenses are edge blackened to reduce internal light scatter and reflections to an absolute minimum.
The entire Fujiyama lineup is parfocal, accepts standard 1.25" astronomy filters, and comes with plastic eyepiece caps. The chrome barrels of the Fujiyama HD-ORs are smooth-sided, and they have removed the helpful, but also often annoying, safety groove.
Solid construction, bright, clean and sharp views throughout a fully corrected 42 degree AFOV with sharp field stops makes the Fujiyamas perfect for every type of viewing. They are also an exellent match with high end apochromats for hard core planetary, lunar, solar and double star viewing.
Each eyepiece carries a one year Kokusai Kohki parts and labor warranty.

12.5 and 9mm Fujiyama HDOrtho
Pros: Cons: Comments:They’re are very few eyepieces in my astronomy hobby/career that I can truly say have that “snap” to them...these deliver!

May 17, 2017Fine 12.5mm Orthoscopic
Pros: Cons: Comments:I have had only 2 opportunities to use the 12.5mm due to bad weather, but the experiences have been good. I used it with both an old Celestron 5 and a newer Tele Vue refractor. The first quarter moon and Jupiter showed good color, contrast and resolution.I compared it head to head with an old 12mm Brandon. The Fujiyama had almost exactly the same field of view and eye relief. In terms of contrast, the Brandon may have had a slight edge; but I am not yet certain. On star fields with the Tele Vue refractor, the Fujiyama showed pinpoint stars from the center to edge of the field of view. That field of view is not huge, but it is plenty adequate and easy to see all at once. Given this level of performance so far, it seems like a relative bargain--especially for lunar, solar and planetary observing.

Dec 24, 2016KK Fujiyama HD-OR 12.5 - top rank performer!
Pros: Cons: Comments:Bought to take a critical place in a lightweight set in my new refractor and to augment my Ethos 13 for fine critical observation of galaxies in the Starmaster, this eyepiece performs at a VERY high level in both tasks. I could not be happier with it. Eye relief is fine and it Barlows well.

Apr 27, 2014Works great
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Compact,Easy to Use,Lightweight,Accurate
Cons:Narrow field of view
Comments:I tried this eyepiece for the first time tonight. Works great in my Starblast 4.5 with a 3x barlow at 108x for viewing Jupiter and it's moons. I already had the 9mm KK Fuji Ortho for 150x with the 3x barlow, but I wanted a lower mag eyepiece for nights with less than perfect seeing conditions. Same great quality as the 9mm. The 12.5mm Ortho has 10.4mm eye relief compared to 7.6mm with the 9mm Ortho. The 42 degree AFOV may be a bit narrow for some people, but that's to be expected from any Abbe Orthoscopic eyepiece. I can live with that for the sharp distortion free view I get at magnifications over 100x.
