Manufacturer Description
Deep Sky Filter
- Intended for viewing nebulae from light-polluted skies.
- Blocks all mercury vapor and high & low pressure sodium vapor lamp light, neon lights and airglow, while transmitting the rest of the visible spectrum.
- The best all-around visual light pollution filter for use in urban skies.
- This filter also provides high-contrast views of the Martian polar caps
The 1.25in Deep Sky is Lumicon's most popular nebula filter. It blocks all high & low pressure mercury and sodium vapor lamp light, neon lights and airglow, while transmitting the rest of the visible spectrum. Visually, the Deep Sky Filter enhances contrast of nebula under both light-polluted and dark skies. The Deep Sky Filter also passes infrared light, making it an excellent filter for photographing deep space objects through light-polluted skies.
To ensure that your Lumicon filter remains the World's Best, the strictest quality control standards are employed throughout the production process. Each Lumicon Deep Sky Filter is individually inspected and proudly inscribed with the percentage of light transmittance of the H-Alpha, H-Beta and OIII emission lines.

nice filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:I really like this because it doesn't turn everything blue like some LPR filters. I still get true colors just with a darker background.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 28, 2011Great Filter
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I didn't know if this filter would work for me when I purchased it. I have a Sodium vapor light about 50 feet from where my tesescope is set up. It caused many headaches for my imaging.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I put this filter on my camera and the images were spectacular. Almost all of the light polution was gone. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Feb 2, 2011+1 for astrophotography from the city
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses,Compact
Cons: Comments:This great filter helps me with my astrophotography hobby while I'm in a very light polluted city (Buenos Aires, Argentina). It's a general purpose filter that will help you achieve far greater exposure times than without any filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
However, it's not magical: some light still passes through and the final pictures have a bluish hue, which in turn adds to the gradient produced by that light in the city, both of which you need to remove digitally.
Overall, a great filter that helps a lot, but not 100% (none does unless you chose a [really] narrowband filter). This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

May 8, 2009Lumicon Deep Sky Filter 1.25
Pros:Quality coatings
Cons:No bad remarks
Comments:This Lumicon deep sky filter is one of the best narrow band filters for nebulas and knocks out light pollution and sky glow!..lumicon says:::
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
DEEP-SKY best on 7 nebulae, second best on 3 nebulae.
*Provided at least some slight improvement for *all* nebulae surveyed.
TOTAL 1st and 2nd RECOMMENDATIONS for DEEP-SKY: 10 objects.
From my view, the % of what I have seen visual was improved by 30%. This is also a good imaging filter!!This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 4, 2009Very good filter
Pros:Really blocks street lights, give an impression of depth in DSOs
Cons:Slightly more expensive than the other brands.
Comments:I heard about Lumicon in forums - some people say that Lumicon makes the best filters for astronomy, so I bought one.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I found that the filter is good, because my observing site (my house) is in the middle of a city of 160k people. My scope is a 130mm (5") and I heard that the filter would perform better in bigger aperture scopes. Haven't tested it yet for astrophotography, but I think the results will be better than looking into the eyepiece.May 9, 2007Lumicon Deep Sky Filter 1.25"
