Manufacturer Description
The ULTIMATE nebula filter. The original Lumicon 2in Ultra High Contrast Filter is unbeatable for revealing nebulosity. This is achieved by passing three nebula emission lines-the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm) and the H-beta line (486nm)-while blocking light-pollution and Sky Glow. The result is superb views of the Orion, Lagoon, Swan and other extended nebulae.
To ensure that your Lumicon filter remains the World's Best, the strictest quality control standards are employed throughout the production process. Each Lumicon Ultra High Contrast Filter is individually inspected and proudly inscribed with the percentage of light transmittance of the OIII and H-beta emission lines.

The one to buy
Pros: Cons: Comments:If you're going to get one filter I recommend this one. Excellent optical quality with no ghost images. Great views of many nebula from under Los Angeles light pollution.

May 30, 2017Easly Best DSO filter on the Market
Pros: Cons: Comments:This filter performed way beyond my expectations on Saturday when viewing the Swan, Lagoon and Triffid Nebulas. All these objects are extremely low down from UK latitudes and I live in an inner city area blighted by light pollution and this time of the year we do not get true darkness in the month of May..
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I also viewed the Dumbell and Ring Nebulas and this filter really makes them glow - wonderful.
The Swan nebula looked particularly majestic and graceful giving me the instant smile factor. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 29, 2016re: lumicon UHC
Pros: Cons: Comments:It is said that this filter works on the most amount of targets..more than the OIII filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Apart from buying a larger scope, this is the best visual upgrade you can make to your current set up. Lumincon being the best brand for filters.
Testing it on M42 with a Meade 10" ACF, the most dramatic change was actually in town. It almost doubled the size of M42 in town, filtering out the light pollution.
From a dark site, the change was less dramatic but in all cases it looked better while using the filter. I have yet to use it on more targets but I look forward to it.
Highly recommended. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 11, 2016Choose the best things. And of them - what is available!
Pros:Lightweight,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons: Comments:For each instance Lumicon UHS-filter has on the quality of the test result (% Hb band transmission, OIII-496nm, OIII-501nm, Ha).
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This filter of Lumicon allows me to get the best picture of the nebula. Thus it outperforms the UHC-filters from other manufacturers.
I use it on the telescope Lightbridge F/5 12" for observing deep-sky objects. This filter became the top for me.
Save your time, when searching for the best UHC-filter, use the time to observation DSO!This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Mar 25, 2010Absolutely Phenomenal!
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate,Compact
Cons: Comments:I finally got The Crab from my location with this! This is a wonderful filter. It consistently surpasses my expectations. M42 has never shown so much detail. I have been going back, and revisiting the Messier Catalogue for a "Second - First Light"! I am using an 8 inch Dob, and the filter does not overly darken the background. For smaller scopes, I would recommend checking the manufactureer's recomendations.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes

May 22, 2009Love this filter
Pros:Great LPR filter
Cons:None
Comments:This is a great filter for a light polluted or dark sky viewing sight. This filter shows off orion nebulae great. It stands out against the dark black background and shows some color. This a very good all around filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I have used this filter to view a full moon and allows high contrast for light polluted area. This filter has been a must (as I have a street light 200 ft away). I read a lot of reviews on lpr filters and this one had the best reviews
as I can see why if you were to buy a filter for light polluted skyies or for nebulae this is the one. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 8, 2009Lumicon UHC 1.25"
Pros:Most used by me,Best all around filter
Cons:Nothing bad
Comments:This is my most used Lumicon narrow-pass filter!! Much more contrast and even with a full moon, the DSOs stuck out with at least 20-30% more detail!! Without the moon light, the contrast jumped to 40-50%!! Nice filter for visual or ccd work!! Even using a 10mm EP which isn't recommended but works fine!!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes

Sep 3, 2007Excellent Light Pollution Solution
Pros:Greatly improves contrast in even badly light polluted areas.
Cons:Can't think of any.
Comments:I’ve faced a sad irony for a good portion of my adult life: I’m a Deep-Sky enthusiast who lives close to New York City. Under the best of observing conditions, the night sky over my backyard has always been dominated by a multi-hued glow and the faintest stars visible are listed as being about 3rd magnitude. Enter the Lumicon Ultra High Contrast (UHC) Filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Lumicon did a beautiful job in manufacturing this narrow band LPR filter. Through very light polluted skies, I was able to see the eyes of the Owl Nebula M97 and the hole in the Ring Nebula M57 with my 10.1-inch Dob. The UHC Filter clearly showed the nebulosity while turning the pearlescent background black. The improvement in contrast brought out wisps of detail in the Orion Nebula and allowed the brighter parts of the Veil to be observed only 10 miles East of Kennedy Airport.
In conclusion, the Lumicon UHC Filter is an excellent high-contrast filter to allow Deep-Sky observing in even very light polluted areas.May 9, 2007Lumicon UHC 1.25"
