5.0 A must for Lunar Observing

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate,Compact,Lightweight

      Cons:

      Comments:

I have used several ND filters with small telescopes for looking at the moon and they do a decent job. On my 10" Newtonian the Moon is painfully blinding with most ND filters I have tried. This is only filter that works, the double polariser allows you adjust the amount of light transmitted to the eye with no noticeable colour cast or reflections. To make Lunar viewing a pleasant experience again, at it's lower settings it also takes the edge of the glare from Jupiter making it easier to pick out details.

I using a single eyepiece you need to guess a little with setting but you can separate the filter allowing you to put one half in a Barlow or comma corrector (if you have one that accepts a filter) and the other on an eyepiece, this gives finger tip control of the filter as you move from fully illuminated parts of the moon to the terminator.

      5.0 Lumicon is quality

      Pros:

      Compact,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Comments:

I own many Lumicon filters (this one, Deep Sky, UHC, etc.). I have to say their filters are great, and this one is not the exception.

If you're a devoted Lunar observer, you should definitely get one, specially useful when the moon is reaching its full phase.

5.0 Lumicon 2" variable polarizer filter

      Pros:

      - flexible and easy to use
      - good quality
      - good price

      Cons:

      - cardboard box for case

      Comments:

This filter is very well made, as one would expect coming from Lumicon. The all machined and anodized aluminum construction is very clean and snug, and operates smooth and precisely. The filter has the standard 2” thread on both ends, and is not as tall as I thought it’d be, being only 13mm in height when screwed onto your eyepiece. Views through the filter are clear and undistorted. I really like the fact that I can tweak the filter to get exactly the brightness and contrast I want. My only beef is it comes in a simple little cardboard box. A great accessory!

      5.0 Excellent quality variable Polarizer

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      None

      Comments:

I split this into two parts so I could attach one to my eyepiece and one to my diagonal. That way I can rotate the eyepiece to change the brightness. Works great!

      5.0 Lumicon 1.25" Variable Polarizer

      Pros:

      Schott-Hoya optical glass

      Cons:

      None at this time

      Comments:

Great filter for Moon viewing. With its 5% to 35% variable transmittance, it is a natural for viewing any and all of the Moon phases. I also use it for viewing Venus to cut down on glare and to perhaps see a dusky marking. I really like being able to just give the eyepiece a little turn and change the density of the filter.
