Product Info

Manufacturer Description

View or image the Sun in white light with a Lunt Solar Wedge! This diagonal-type solar filter inserts into the focuser of your refractor telescope for safe viewing of eclipses, sun spots, and more.

The LS2HW preforms best on refractors with 6" or less front aperture. As long as you can reach focus for imaging with a standard star diagonal on your night time telescope, you will be able to reach focus when imaging with Lunt Solar White Light Wedges. Note, however, that solar wedges are for use ONLY with refractor telescopes. Do not use these with other telescope designs (SCTs, Maks, etc.) since the full energy and heat of the Sun is concentrated inside the telescope tube.

The addition of a polarizing filter (not included) is recommended when using the solar wedge visually. This allows you to dim the solar image for your eyes to your liking. Simply put one polarizing filter on the bottom of your eyepiece and adjust the brightness to your comfort by rotating the eyepiece.

This Package Includes:

  • 2" Lunt White Light Solar Wedge
  • ND3 Pre-installed Filter
  • Metal Carrying Case
  • Die Cut Foam with room for accessories

      5.0 Amazing!

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

The views of the sun with the wedge are far superior to viewing with a Mylar filter or glass white light filter. The wedge allows the quality of optics to remain high. I can see surface textures and the sunspots. It was great for the eclipse! I use it with my Televue 85.

      5.0 2" Lunt Herschel wedge

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

This white light solar diagonal provides detailed views of the sun's surface as conditions will allow.
The heat sink only got slightly warm after 30+ minutes of recent observation in 90 degree temps.
Every camera and eyepiece configuration that worked with my regular 2" diagonal also worked with the wedge, so no compatibility issues. A 1-1/4" adapter is also included to allow use of one's full complement of eyepieces.
The view is bright and use of a color filter or polarized filter is definitely recommended to increase contrast and detail.
This is a heavy unit so make sure everything is securely attached It does come with a foam-lined storage case which is handy. The build quality is high and should offer many years of use with proper care.
The only issue was my unit came with no instructions but readily available on the internet.
It is also important to note that even though this is for use only with refractors, not all refractors can utilize a Herschel wedge. So, it is important to read the product description to determine if your refractor can safely use this product.
All-in-all, I am impressed with the Lunt solar wedge and consider it money well-spent.

Really nice Solar views. Excellent detail. Now we just need solar minimum to pass so there's something to look at.
