Meade 9x50 Achromatic finderscope
Pros:Highest power, nice crosshairs, easy fit and nice polish.
Cons:Hard to find on the used market.
Comments:I've never thought much about the finderscope that came with my LX-90 until I looked through a 6x30 finderscope on a friend's telescope. The 6x30 is just not worth much unless it comes with the telescope. Since this review was first written, I've found that not all finderscopes fit on all telescopes, and to be fair the 6 x 30 finderscope may be all that works with that scope. To have a 9 power finderscope and 50mm of aperture is extremely helpful in locating anything in the night sky. With the Go-to on my SCT it makes life very easy. The stats are: 2 screw adjustment, approximately 5 degree FOV, large crosshairs, weight estimated between 15- 20 oz, nice blue color and easy fit on the side of the 8" SCT.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The best part is that at least 80% of the view is excellent with pinpoint stars and the balance 20% is very acceptable. In my opinion, anything less than an 8 power in a finderscope is just about worthless, once you look through an 8 or 9 power finder. I'm told that to purchase this finderscope on its own will cost about $75. You may be able to find one on the used market, but it's a hard find as the 9 power finders are about the very best.
