Manufacturer Description

New Improved Version - Now with new anti-reflection coatings on trusses and castings, and dual speed Crayford focuser.

It's not just a big telescope. It's a big telescope that goes anywhere. New LightBridge truss-dobs from Meade take down and set up quickly. So you can take one of these massive windows on the universe out to your favorite dark sky locations with ease. LightBridge dobs give you high quality Meade optics, premium components, and ultra portability - all for about the same price as an ordinary tube dob. So get a LightBridge truss-dob. And prepare to cross the universe.

Diffraction Limited Optics
The 10" LightBridge Truss-Tube Dobsonian features a superior Meade quality multi-coated, diffraction limited 10" primary mirror, focal length 1270mm (f/5). Meade optics consistently outperform telescopes of similar and larger aperture. Consumers know that Meade Optics Inside means that what they see through our telescopes will be views that are detailed, crisp and full of contrast.

Meade Optical Coatings Aluminum Coatings
Coatings with magnesium fluoride over coat provides bright images full of detail.

Metal Optical Tube with Primary Mirror Cell
The optics of this style of telescope are only as good as their mounting, which is why Meade engineers gave the LightBridge primary mirror a top of the line, fully adjustable, high strength but light weight aluminum stress free floating multi-point cell with built in cooling fan.

2" Crayford-Style 10:1 Dual Speed Machined Aluminum Focuser With 1.25" Adapter
Smooth precise focusing is achieved with this classic design. A unique focus tension knob and focus lock design gives complete control over focus.

Built-In Primary Mirror Cooling Fan
Bring the telescope into thermal equilibrium quickly and efficiently with the battery powered cooling fan. The included battery pack for the fan takes 8 (user supplied) AA batteries and is used to speed the cool down process of the primary mirror, improving image quality. The fan is mounted to the rear of the vented primary mirror cell for fast cool down.

Solid OTA Mount
The sturdy laminated finish wooden Dobsonian mount includes premium features such as roller bearings on the azimuth (side to side) axis and large diameter aluminum altitude (vertical axis) bearings with a hand adjustable variable tension brake for smooth and stable movement.

Steel RA Roller Bearings
Laminated base with roller bearings on the azimuth axis that make movements smooth and effortless.

Lightweight Aluminum Trusses
The open truss design of the LightBridge Dobsonians means portability of the telescope is dramatically improved over a solid tube design. Taking only moments to set up and take apart for travel, the extremely rigid truss frame design ensures a no-compromises view through the telescope. Hand driven Dobsonian style telescopes by their nature need good mounts with smooth and stable movement to be enjoyable, and here again the LightBridge excels.

Advanced Four-Reticle Red Dot Viewfinder
Four reticles and varying brightness controls allow this deluxe finder to adjust to your observing needs.

26mm Meade QX Wide Angle 2" Eyepiece Deluxe Model
This premium eyepiece has a 2" barrel, and boasts a whopping 70° Apparent Field of View.

AutoStar suite software also included.

Product carries full one year Meade factory limited warranty (within US/Canada only).

4.0 Amazing telescope at a great price!!

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Compact,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Cooling Fan

      Comments:

I have owned a Meade Lightbridge 10" for nine months now and have been very impressed! This is the second telescope I have owned and big step up from the 4.5" reflector I started out with. The 10" mirror will collect so much light from the moon and planets it's a good idea to get some filters with this bucket. The duel-speed focuser is excellent for dialing into the night sky and gettin that perfect focus. Construction is top notch and the Lightbridge was very easy to assemble. I have not had any issues with collimnation and the center-spot primary mirror makes this task a breeze. The only thing that could make this telescope better out of the box would be a more powerful cooling fan, living in the tropics it can take upwards of an hour to get the mirror acclimated once outdoors. This telescope ships in two boxes both within international shipping standards and I was able to recieve them from across the Pacific. The trusses breakdown for convenient transportation to your favorite dark-sky location. The best part of all this was the amazingly low price! Compared to other similar sized telescopes the Meade Lightbridge blows the competition out of the water.

      4.0 Meade Lightbridge 10"

      Pros:

Portable, easy set-up with great optics and low cost.

      Cons:

The 26mm eyepiece supplied is not that good.

      Comments:

I bought my scope 8 months ago and have used it just about every clear night since. It sets up very easily by one person (even in the dark using only red light). This scope is extremely portable and easily fits into the back seat of my car (sedan). The optics are very good, providing fantastic views. It moves very easy and balance has not been an issue, it does come with the tensioner, but I've never needed to use it yet (even with a heavy 38mm 2" eyepiece). My only complaints on this scope are that the way the truss tubes set up, the shroud impinges on the light gathering ability, wrapping a crazy carpet or some belts around the truss tubes will help keep the shroud from collapsing into the optical tube. Also, the supplied 26mm eyepiece has serious coma issues. The crayford style focuser works great and the ability to use 2" or 1.25" eyepieces make it versatile. Collimating the scope is a breeze, however, I did replace the springs with a heavier set (this probably wasn't real necessary, but it did help).

      4.0 Meade 10" f/5 Lightbridge

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses,Accurate,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Heavy

      Comments:

I've had my Meade 10" f/5 Lightbridge for 5 months now and I still get excited every time I use it. Contrary to some reviews I've read, it holds collimation just fine when it's disassembled, moved and put back together. Rarely have I ever had to spend more than 3 or 4 minutes collimating the mirrors. I would strongly recommend getting a laser collimator, however. In addition, I also recommend getting a light shroud and a cover or cap for the UTA. In addition to the primary purpose of theses items, they will also help keep the mirrors clean. Other than mounting and balancing my 114mm Meade Newtonian reflector on its tripod, I had never assembled a telescope before. However, it only took me about 45 minutes to put the LB together when I got it. Like just about any other scope, there will be some minor tweaks, upgrades or changes that you'll probably want to make. But, in my opinion, the Lightbridge, regardless of the size you get, will give you the most "bang for your buck". I've had 5 months to "test drive" this scope and, if I had it to do over, I would get the Lightbridge again!
