The world standard in telescope oculars, Meade Series 4000 eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view, consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief - and yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration, and off-axis color. Incorporating 7-layer multi-coatings and edge-blackened optics for optimum image contrast, these sophisticated 4 to 8-element designs permit levels of optical performance generally impossible to achieve with eyepieces of fewer elements. All Series 4000 eyepieces include a soft rubber eyeguard, custom fitted to each eyepiece with a bayonet mount. The eyeguards fold down for eyeglass wearers, and in fact the folded eyeguard shields eyeglasses from coming into contact with the metal eyepiece housings. Rubber grips are provided on all but the three shortest focal length Super Plossl eyepieces.
Designed to utilize the very latest in optical glass types, Meade 4-element Super Plossls are excellent general-purpose eyepieces. Very nice eyepiece for the price
Pros: Cons: Comments:Bought this eyepiece to use with a long refractor. Works very well, clear to the edge, with a reasonable field of view.

Pros:Coatings, sharp field stop, works awesome in long focus refractors, excellent contrast
Cons:Kinda short on eye relief, concave eyelens causes eyeball glint
Comments:I use this eyepiece in a 60/1000mm refractor. In this telescope it is sharp up to the edge. The contrast is excellent and the FOV is right for an eyepiece of this design. The eye relief is a little on the short side compared to, say a GSO Plossl, but the smooth barrel makes this eyepiece easy to side in and out of the focuser with no hang ups.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It is very lightweight and sturdy. The field stop is very sharp with just a hint of an orange/yellow fringe. When viewing bright objects, the concave eyelens causes eyeball glint but there is not problem with flaring or scatter. Pros:Eye relief ok, can be bought cheaply
Cons:Poorly made (China/Taiwan version), eye relief is tight.
Comments:This Meade plossl was one of the two decent plossls I got when I bought a compete set from Meade (just $99 since I bought it with the LX-90 SCT). The eye relief was almost decent and the views in my LX-90 f/10 SCT were ok. The stats are: FOV 50 degrees, eye relief 7mm, 4 glass elements and the weight is 0.3 lbs.

I was able to constantly focus and view well enough in this plossl to almost keep it. But it had to go with all the others in a trade deal. If you come across one made in Japan, I hear they are the best of the lot. If it's cheap enough, I'd buy it. Black background and pinpoint stars to about 50% in my LX-90, f/10 SCT.
