Manufacturer Description
The world standard in telescope oculars, Meade Series 4000 eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view, consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief - and yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration, and off-axis color. Incorporating 7-layer multi-coatings and edge-blackened optics for optimum image contrast, these sophisticated 4 to 8-element designs permit levels of optical performance generally impossible to achieve with eyepieces of fewer elements. All Series 4000 eyepieces include a soft rubber eyeguard, custom fitted to each eyepiece with a bayonet mount. The eyeguards fold down for eyeglass wearers, and in fact the folded eyeguard shields eyeglasses from coming into contact with the metal eyepiece housings. Rubber grips are provided on all but the three shortest focal length Super Plossl eyepieces.
Designed to utilize the very latest in optical glass types, Meade 4-element Super Plossls are excellent general-purpose eyepieces. For observing hairline lunar and planetary detail, splitting close double stars, or for resolving faint nebulosity in deep-space, Meade Super Plossls optimize the performance of any telescope type, whether it is a f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain, f/16 refractor, or f/4 reflector!
Product carries full one year Meade factory limited warranty (within US/Canada only).

Meade 4000 series Super Plössl
Pros: Cons: Comments:My second 4000 series eyepiece, purchased recently as an upgrade to my Meade Infinity 102, It's a definite improvement in visualizing, excellent quality optic performance and works just great. The service from Agena was also top notch, with great packaging, quick service and very competitive pricing; I'll be buying again, for sure.

Apr 22, 2018Inexpensive eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased this eyepiece before investing in a wide angle eyepiece at some future date. It works very well for general observing. It meets my expectations for cost versus performance.

Dec 7, 2013The Series 4000 Bats 1.000
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:All of the astronomy books that recommend the Series 4000 oculars, either directly in their text or obliquely by illustrating them, could be wrong. They're not!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This is a nice, clear, bright eyepiece. At 20mm, it provides an important step up in magnification from the standard 25-26mm pieces that come with most telescopes. Neither too much, nor too little, as Goldilocks might say. It's just right. In a 1200mm focal length 'scope, the Moon fits in the field of view perfectly, and the image is clean and crisp from top to bottom and side to side. The stars and other deep space objects aren't too shabby, either. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 29, 2013Love the Meade Series 4000 SP
Pros:Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I love the Meade Series 4000 EP. The lower to mid power ones are excellent with a nice wide FOV and excellent eye relief. Have not tried the higher powered ones but the 40/32/20mm are my go to EP for lower to mid power on my XT6.

Sep 17, 2013Meade Series 400 1.25" Super Plossl Eyepiece
Pros:Lightweight,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Compact,Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I have the Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl Eyepiece Set. They all work great for either Astronomy or Bird Watching. This one was not included in the set. I'm sure it will also work as great as the others do. I have only used it once and it does what it is supposed to do.

Aug 24, 2007Meade Super Plossl Series 4000 - 20mm
Pros:Not much unless you have a Japanese version
Cons:Worthless in most scopes, don't buy
Comments:Included in the eyepiece set I got from Meade for $99 (with the purchase of a new LX90) was this 20mm plossl and I found it to be another disappointment. My version was from China or Taiwan and was poorly made.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? No
I did have a chance to compare a Televue 20mm plossl with a 20mm Meade SP series 4000 at a star party. No comparison! Eye relief stated is around 13mm but I doubt it. In any telescope I used, stars were sharp to about 50% with the balance being worthless. I'm told that the Japanese version of this plossl is an excellent workhorse and would be a keeper, but buyer beware. The views in this review were made in my LX-90 f/10 SCT. I still have the Televue 20mm plossl, and am hoping to get another for my binoviewer.Sort bySpecifications
