Manufacturer Description
The world standard in telescope oculars, Meade Series 4000 eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view, consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief - and yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration, and off-axis color. Incorporating 7-layer multi-coatings and edge-blackened optics for optimum image contrast, these sophisticated 4 to 8-element designs permit levels of optical performance generally impossible to achieve with eyepieces of fewer elements. All Series 4000 eyepieces include a soft rubber eyeguard, custom fitted to each eyepiece with a bayonet mount. The eyeguards fold down for eyeglass wearers, and in fact the folded eyeguard shields eyeglasses from coming into contact with the metal eyepiece housings. Rubber grips are provided on all but the three shortest focal length Super Plossl eyepieces.
Designed to utilize the very latest in optical glass types, Meade 4-element Super Plossls are excellent general-purpose eyepieces. For observing hairline lunar and planetary detail, splitting close double stars, or for resolving faint nebulosity in deep-space, Meade Super Plossls optimize the performance of any telescope type, whether it is a f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain, f/16 refractor, or f/4 reflector!
Product carries full one year Meade factory limited warranty (within US/Canada only).

Meade 4000 series Super Plossl
Pros: Cons: Comments:Purchased recently as an upgrade to my Meade Infinity 102, It's a definite improvement in visualizing, excellent quality optic performance and works just great. The service from Agena was also excellent, with great packaging, quick service and very competitive pricing; I'll be buying again, for sure.

Pros:Compact,Easy to Use,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:This lens was not in the eyepiece set I have. I added both a "Low Profile" and a "Regular Profile" one to my set. They work Great.

Feb 18, 2009Great medium power eyepiece
Pros:Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Great all around eyepiece, shows the orion nebula in detail on my dobsonian. Also on my richfield refractor the double cluster of Perseus looks great. M45, M41, M36, M37, M38 are among my favorites using this eyepiece. The moon looks very sharp and beautiful.

I love it also on my ETX90.
This is a sharp eyepiece and objects look very bright on it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 15, 2008Good Workhorse Eyepiece
Pros:Good optics and coatings, Good fit and finish
Cons:No real complaints
Comments:Out of all my plossl eyepieces this one is my second favorite. I mostly use the 26mm for looking at larger wide field objects such as M42 Orion Nebula, Double Cluster, and Andromeda galaxy and its companions. Internal reflection on bright objects such as Jupiter and the moon is minimal with this eyepiece. In my 12.5" F/5 Discovery dob I get fairly nice contrast from the 26mm eyepiece and the stars stay pinpoint sharp to the edge of the FOV and I really do not detect much coma. Granted the FOV is only 52 degrees it works well. The fit and finish are fairly nice on this eyepiece and I will keep it in my collection. In my scope at a focal length of 1587mm this eyepiece gives me 61X, and it also works well when barlowed. This is a good eyepiece and I recommend it to persons looking for a decent plossl.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesJul 7, 2007Meade Series 400 Super Plossl 26mm
Pros:Affordable at $80.00, decent optics
Cons:Many versions, not the very best eyepiece in the market today
Comments:This was my working eyepiece until I bought Televue eyepieces. Let me say that for $80.00 new it was a decent eyepiece. The green tint coating was excellent and the viewing was quite satisfactory. The stats are: 52 degree FOV, eye relief 10mm, 4 elements, and the weight is 0.3 lbs. It comes either boxed or within a plastic screw holder. The early Japanese models were boxed. The series 4000 eyepieces are excellent workhorses for the new hobbyist and are affordable. The one I had came with my LX-90 telescope, which is a nice feature from Meade. There are many of these eyepieces on the used market within many websites, so you can double up if needed. Just be sure that you ask for either the Japanese or the Taiwanese version. They are different somehow.
