Skyview Pro review
Pros:Sturdy mount; Good setting circles; quiet drives
Cons:Tubular legs not the correct length for either refractors or reflectors
Comments:I purchased an Orion 120mm refractor off Ebay. This is the original model on an EQ-3 mount. For the price I paid the scope and mount combination were okay. Recently I had the chance to buy a Skyview Pro with drives and polar scope for $300. Wondering if I was going to have problems with the SKyview Pro as I did with the EQ-3, I took the chance and bought the Skyview Pro. There is a world of difference between the Skyview Pro (SVP) and the EQ-3. The SVP handles the 120mm refractor with ease and also handles my homebuilt 8" reflector as well. The drives have a little backlash that I will eventually fix via the adjustment screws, but for visual work the backlash isn't a major problem. With the sturdier SVP, double stars are a pleasure and focusing is much easier now. The EQ-3 setting circles weren't worth much, but the SVP's are accurate and work well for finding DSOs. The tubular legs are just a little short for the 120mm and a little too long for the 8". I had to do a lot of work to make the EQ-3 workable, but the SVP works just fine out of the box.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesMay 9, 2007Orion SkyView Pro Equatorial Mount
Pros:Mandles more weight than 20lbs; steady RA and Dec controls; nice options!
Cons:No bad reviews!!
Comments:This is the best mount I have bought! With the optional accessories like the true track dual drives and the polar scope, this is one solid mount! Right now I'm using an Orion 6" f/8 and an Orion 80mm f/11 guide scope, with the added 10lb counterweight. With everything I use adds up to more than the 20lb weight limit yet still doesn't wobble!! I also use the rock stable anti-vibration pads which is worth the $60!! I also like the either Go-To or Intelliscope system for this mount!!
