Manufacturer Description

If you're like us, when you observe with your telescope you use a few favorite eyepieces, a barlow lens, maybe some filters, and a red flashlight to see what you're doing. Trouble is, it's not very convenient fumbling around in the tripod's accessory tray to find these things. And your observing table is almost never within arm's reach of the telescope's eyepiece. That's where the Orion Waist Case Accessory Holder comes in. It keeps all your often-used accessories literally "on you", organized, protected, and within easy reach. It's a rugged polyester hip pack designed exclusively for the amateur astronomer. Its custom foam interior has seven die-cut holes to hold up to seven 1.25" eyepieces, or three 2" eyepieces, three 1.25" eyepieces, and a short barlow. It has pockets on top, in front, and on the sides for holding filters and other accessories. The top flap unzips and folds back, out of the way, if desired. Fits waist sizes up to 58".

3.0 Orion Waist Case Accessory Holder

      Pros:

      Well made, very convenient

      Cons:

Not a good value at the regular price

      Comments:

I needed an alternate way of keeping my eyepieces and accessories handy when using a Newtonian telescope. My tripod's accessory tray is in an inconvenient position with the Newt clamped on. Orion's Waist Case Accessory Holder gave me a place where eyepieces and accessories are always handy. The well made case has a foam rubber insert with spaces for four 1 1/4 inch eyepieces and three more spaces that can hold either 1 1/4 or 2 inch eyepieces. There are also pockets that will hold up to four eyepiece filters and other small goodies.

While I really like the case, I need to point out one thing I didn't like about it. When I bought the case, Orion had a big sale and the case was going for under $30.00. When not on sale, the Waist Case sells for $44.11, more than the price of Orion's Medium Deluxe Accessory Case which has hard sides and is almost three times the size. I would only recommend the Waist Case if it can be bought at a reduced price. Add a star if you find this item on sale.

4.0 Orion Waist Case Accessory Holder

      Pros:

Nice size; Plenty of storage spaces; Adjustable waist strap.

      Cons:

Not water proof; Foam cutouts are tight for 2" eyepieces.

      Comments:

There are many times when you just want to take out your "grab and go" setup and not your "heavy duty" package. Keeping your favorite eyepieces close at hand can be a chore if you have to lug along an eyepiece case and table. I've found the Orion waist case to be my favorite solution to this problem.

The case is basically a waist tote bag with an adjustable strap that will fit most waists. It's made of a durable polyester material and has pockets on the top, front, and sides. The two side pockets are a mesh see-through design and one has a plastic clip that will hold a small flashlight or other clippable item. Unzip the top flap and you will find a foam fitted insert that has four 1.25" and three 2" eyepiece cutouts.

I've found the 1.25" cutouts to be rather deep and they can accommodate two eyepieces, depending on the length of the ocular. The 2" holes are rather small in circumference, and tend to grip the eyepieces too tightly. There are places to store your favorite filters, either in the front or top zippered flap.

The bag can also be slung around your tripod legs and pulled tightly with the adjustable strap. I really like this bag, it's much like an ammunition pack ready to go when you are and it keeps your accessories and eyepieces protected and close at hand.

This little bag has become a must have with my grab and go setup.
