Manufacturer Description
The Tele Vue 12mm Type 4 Nagler eyepiece provides excellent contrast, reduced pincushion, more true field, and longer eye-relief. With added eye-relief, the click-stop Instadjust eyeguard helps maintain proper eye distance and centration. For deep sky viewing, the comfort, clarity and contrast gets users closer to Tele Vue's "spacewalk" viewing goal.
All Tele Vue Nagler eyepieces have proprietary tuned full multi-coatings, blackened lens edges, high index glasses, fold-down eyeguards, rubber grip rings, cover for the eyeguard, an undercut in the barrel for extra locking security, and filter threads. All Tele Vue eyepiece lines are proprietary, in-house designs manufactured to their specifications and tolerances. Every eyepiece is individually tested at Tele Vue to ensure it meets high optical and cosmetic standards.
Take a "spacewalk" across a wide, sharp 82° apparent field
Compare a penny to a half dollar to see the relative size between a 50° and 82° apparent field - almost 3 times the area difference! And while others boast of impressive apparent field sizes, Tele Vue's philosophy of "showing no field unless it's fine" stresses full field image quality as the ingredient for impressive views. Blackened lens edges, anti-reflection threads and rubber eyeguards deliver maximum contrast. Adapter skirts for 2" focusers on larger 1¼" models and rubber grip rings are additional Tele Vue "firsts". Even 2"/1¼" barrel models have an additional feature allowing the 2" extension tube (EBX-2120, sold separately) to be screwed on, which permits use of 2" filters as well as 1¼". 100% full field visual inspection on TeleVue's flat-field test instruments guarantees the performance of every Tele Vue eyepiece.
Concept: "You may know there's a long history of naming eyepieces after their designers: Kellner, Erfle and Plossl, to name a few. In the late 70's I designed an eyepiece sufficiently radical that I dared attach my name to it. Even today, I must admit a little discomfort when talking about "Nagler" eyepieces.
With "Naglers", my aim is to approach the wide angle perspective of naked eye vision, while maintaining the highest degree of sharpness, contrast, and viewing comfort. The goal is to allow the telescope to virtually "disappear," leaving the impact of "spacewalk" viewing." — Al Nagler
The Type-5 permits the largest true field possible (31mm has 42mm field stop), while the shorter focal length Type-6 models are parfocal, with similiar size and weight and all with a comfortable 12mm eye relief.
The Type-4 models feature about 18mm of eye relief and with the "instajust" eyeguard are best for eyeglass wearers or Dioptrx users in their 22, 17, 12mmfocal length range.

Jun 29, 2016Excellent eyepiece!!!!!
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate,Strong Construction
Cons:Difficult to Use
Comments:The one star review from Norway is way out of context. The lenses in the 12mm Nagler Type 4 are very transparent. It is a hard eyepiece to get used to at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is excellent.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Barlows really nicely for planetary views as well.
Only gave it 4 stars because of the learning curve to get used to using it as other eyepieces are easier to use at first. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Dec 10, 2014Awesome eyepiece!
Pros:Easy to Use,Transparent Glass,Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Please ignore the first one star rating and comments about this eyepiece above. The person who rated it, must have got a dud.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The 12mm Nagler T4 is an excellent deep sky / planetary eyepiece that also barlows really well. The tranmission and transparency / clarity is also really good in the eyepiece once you get used to the finicky eye placment.
Highly recommended for deep sky or planets.
I owned one and it was awesome in my 10" f/4.7 reflector and I do not use a coma corrector. Only the last 5% was soft....the rest was razor sharp. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 2, 2014A major disappointment
Pros: Cons:Heavy,Difficult To Focus
Comments:I bought this eyepiece because I mistakenly thought it was a 2" design, only to discover that I had paid a great deal of money for a heavy, bulky and in other respects very ordinary 1.25" eyepiece. The image quality is more than matched by a low-priced 2 Celestron Plossl when used on a C8 as well as a Skywatcher 150/750. In addition, I was able to use the Plossl on a Barlow lens with adequate results, while the blurry TeleVue was removed from the Barlow at once.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? NoThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 5, 200912mm T4 Nagler
Pros:82 degree, it's great!
Cons:No lock for adjusting eyeguard; Little tricky at first to get used to
Comments:This is a very impressive eyepiece when you first see it. I like the 1 1/4" and 2" barrels which makes it easy to use in both ways. I find the adjustment of the eyeguard interesting - 3 to 4 clicks works well for me. If it had a locking mechanism, it would be perfect! A lot of FOV to look at, which is a great advantage for a Dob. Great optics and contrast. It takes a little bit of time to get used to this one, but once you do you will love it!
