Manufacturer Description
Concept:
"I originally designed the Tele Vue Barlow line to complement the high performance of our eyepieces. Only 2 elements of high index glass were required to reduce all aberrations to well below the airy disc in an f/4 system. It has taken a good 15 years, but I think we're finally laying to rest the popular myth of the "degrading Barlow." In a 1997 Sky & Telescope review, Terrence Dickenson wrote "...Technology has erased the old objections. A modern Barlow will not degrade your telescope's optics. Anyone telling you otherwise is using outdated information. Moreover, the highly regarded Nagler eyepieces and their clones have built-in Barlows - ample evidence that the lens is not some detrimental intruder." Thanks Terry, I couldn't agree more." - Al Nagler
Properly designed Barlows do wonderful things: They amplify power, slow the telescope's f/# (improving eyepiece sharpness), and give designers the opportunity to compensate for eyepiece aberrations. Tele Vue Barlows use multi-coated high index glasses for optimum aberration correction, exceptional contrast with virtually no light loss. Observed performance is aberration free, even when tested with f/4 scopes. They even improve their competitor's eyepieces and telescopes!
Tele Vue Quality
Compromise image quality in any part of the optical chain and you've compromised every part! Tele Vue product design and execution deliver consummate satisfaction. Every Tele Vue Barlow must pass the same rigorous f/4, full field testing as all their eyepieces. All Tele Vue Barlows now use brass clamp rings for secure, non marring holding of eyepieces and accessories.
Tele Vue 1.25" Barlow in 2x Magnification
This 2x 1.25" Barlow performs identically as Tele Vue's 3x Barlow. Simply choose this or the 3x Barlow based on your eyepiece collection. Features include parfocal-ization, 1.25" filter threads, captive lock screws that won't fall out, and full multicoatings. Weight = 0.30 lbs.

Worth it
Pros: Cons: Comments:I was on the fence about buying this, not sure if the views would be worth the price but the contrast and clarity are miles above my other barlow

Dec 29, 2016Barlow convert
Pros: Cons: Comments:Never much a fan of Barlows, I've recently become enamored of the KK Fujiyama HD-OR line of ep's and wanted to preserve the eye relief of the 12.5mm and 9mm ep's and maximize the magnification so I picked up this 2x TV Barlow. Well it does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do - doubles magnification while retaining the original ep's eye relief yet adds nothing else to and subtracts nothing from the view. Especially with those little Ortho's it's also surprisingly easy to use and not "tweaky" at all. Now I can go out for a short session with a refractor and have those 2 little KK Orthos & an ES68 24 in my pocket with this Barlow and I'm good for anything I may want to see.

Feb 3, 2008Televue 2X Barlow
Pros:Doubles your magnification, very well made, no false color.
Cons:Expensive, hard to find used.
Comments:I had a chance to use this barlow on a recent night to view Mars, the Moon and some of the Mesier objects. I found this barlow to very much out preform my shorty + Orion barlow.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
When using this 2x barlow in viewing the Moon with my 12mm Nagler Type 2, I saw no false color. In viewing Mars with the 12mm EP I was presented with the same view as I had with a friend's 6mm Televue Radian. Actually I thought my view was slightly better in terms of clarity and color. This barlow doubles your magnification very nicely.
When using long focal length eyepieces, there was no vignetting or edge aberrations. It's rather expensive at around $100 new and it is a long barlow even though it is only a 1.25" barlow. But it is worth every penny. It shamed my Orion barlow completely.Sort by
