Manufacturer Description
Concept:
"I originally designed the Tele Vue Barlow line to complement the high performance of our eyepieces. Only 2 elements of high index glass were required to reduce all aberrations to well below the airy disc in an f/4 system. It has taken a good 15 years, but I think we're finally laying to rest the popular myth of the "degrading Barlow." In a 1997 Sky & Telescope review, Terrence Dickenson wrote "...Technology has erased the old objections. A modern Barlow will not degrade your telescope's optics. Anyone telling you otherwise is using outdated information. Moreover, the highly regarded Nagler eyepieces and their clones have built-in Barlows - ample evidence that the lens is not some detrimental intruder." Thanks Terry, I couldn't agree more." - Al Nagler
Properly designed Barlows do wonderful things: They amplify power, slow the telescope's f/# (improving eyepiece sharpness), and give designers the opportunity to compensate for eyepiece aberrations. Tele Vue Barlows use multi-coated high index glasses for optimum aberration correction, exceptional contrast with virtually no light loss. Observed performance is aberration free, even when tested with f/4 scopes. They even improve their competitor's eyepieces and telescopes!
Tele Vue Quality
Compromise image quality in any part of the optical chain and you've compromised every part! Tele Vue product design and execution deliver consummate satisfaction. Every Tele Vue Barlow must pass the same rigorous f/4, full field testing as all their eyepieces. All Tele Vue Barlows now use brass clamp rings for secure, non marring holding of eyepieces and accessories.
Tele Vue 1.25" Barlow in 3x Magnification
This 3x 1.25" Barlow performs identically as Tele Vue's 2x Barlow. Simply choose this or the 2x Barlow based on your eyepiece collection. Features include parfocal-ization, 1.25" filter threads, captive lock screws that won't fall out, and full multicoatings. Weight = 0.40 lbs.

The right stuff!
Pros: Cons: Comments:Sharp and great contrast for planetary and double stars. Love the parfocal feature with the Televues no time wasted and you can go and change focal lengths.

Jun 2, 2016As good as a barlow gets
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:The 3x TV barlow is one of my indispensable optics. It significantly improves the edge performance of any eyepiece that is not sharp to the edge and it is as transparent as they come. Unlike many shorty barlows the 3x TV barlow rarely vignettes with eyepieces so you see the normal sharp field stop when using this barlow. I have compared it with many different barlows and the only one I've found that compares is the 2" Vernonscope Dakin barlow. I routinely use this barlow with longer eye relief mid-FL range eyepieces to get high magnification views of the Moon and planets. The 3x TV does not degrade the image and cleans up flaws in eyepiece edge performance. It may be more expensive than other barlows but it is worth the extra expense to get one of the best available.

Feb 24, 2009Televue 3X Barlow
Pros:Excellent light transmission and contrast. Televue quality.
Cons:Only does 1.25" EPs, and a touch expensive compared to other barlows.
Comments:I had an opportunity to use a Televue 3X barlow over the weekend. I own a 2X Telvue Barlow and wanted a chance to compare the two.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
As usual the barlow worked its best with the Televue eyepieces that I have - only two in the 1.25" range but what wonders I saw! Jupiter with a 15mm Panoptic and this barlow is a view to behold. It was probably the best clear view of this planet I've ever had. The big red spot was clearly visible and the rest of the planet was like I never saw before. Light transmission is superb along with it being a very contrasty barlow. Optics are top shelve. You have to see to believe. In using my 25mm Televue plossl the planet was just great. Clusters etc., were stunning. A great night of viewing was had.
Now this Barlow is a tad costly at over $100 new, but well worth the money. It was hard for me to return it to its owner. This barlow is as good as my Televue 2X barlow. Very highly rated. Comes with cap, plug and box.Sort by
