Manufacturer Description
Size, weight, and performance make the Tele Vue 19mm Panoptic eyepiece an ideal mid-power chioce. It is the ideal "soul-mate" to TeleVue's Bino Vue. It is parfocal with smaller Plossls and Naglers.
The Tack-Sharp, Long Eye-Relief 68 degree Field Eyepiece
With the Panoptic series, Tele Vue has taken the Wide-Field concept to Nagler-like performance levels - A meaningful advance over any eyepiece in its 68° field class.
All Tele Vue Panoptic eyepieces have proprietary tuned full multi-coatings, blackened lens edges, high index glasses, fold-down eyeguards, rubber grip rings, cover for the eyeguard, an undercut in the barrel for extra locking security, and filter threads. All Tele Vue eyepiece lines are proprietary, in-house designs manufactured to their specifications and tolerances. Every eyepiece is individually tested at Tele Vue to ensure it meets high optical and cosmetic standards.
Concept: Using my Wide-Field design as a starting point, I looked to bring Nagler-like performance to the 60+° field class with the Panoptic series. The idea of a lens to "interface" between the eyepiece and Barlow struck me as the proper way to keep size, weight and cost to a minimum while improving edge of field performance even further. I later developed this idea into the Powermates. — Al Nagler

Oct 4, 2015Perfect eyepiece for binoviewing
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Compact,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:I wanted lightweight quality EPs for binoviewing with my 110mm refractor. As expected, it provides very sharp and contrasty views. Very comfortable to view and eye relief is great. Edge correction is perfect.

Feb 23, 2008Televue Panoptic 19mm
Pros:Lightweight, top quality, barlows well, does well in fast scopes.
Cons:None
Comments:I own a 27 Panoptic. I recently borrowed this eyepiece and I must think about getting this occular. It is a very nice 1.25" eyepiece. This eyepiece is almost perfect in my f/10 8" SCT. It gives a true FOV of 0.63 degrees and an exit pupil of 2mm. I was very impressed.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I found the eyerelief of 10mm to 12mm a tad tight and a problem for eyeglass wearers. Also this EP barlows very well. I used it in a Televue 2X barlow and the combination was great. This EP also worked very well in my friend's f/5 Newtonian, with just a minor amount of edge coma. It was excellent in field sharpness. All the Messier Objects we saw came into view wonderfully with pinpoint stars.
If you can afford it, this EP is perfect for binoviewers. It was very difficult for me to give back this eyepiece. Only a 17 Nagler type 4 was better. But then it was 82-deg FOV for the Nagler 17 vs the 68-deg FOV in the Panoptic. I truly couldn't find anything wrong using this in my SCT. It works well with the paracorr for eyeglass wearers using a fast scope.Feb 17, 2008My Pan 19
Pros:Optical quality, nice FOV, good coatings, light weight, and small size.
Cons:Top lens cap could fit tighter
Comments:If you have never bought any "premium" eyepieces, this is a great one to start with. The 19 mm Panoptic is one of the sharpest eyepieces I have ever used. It has also quickly become one of my favorite eyepieces in my F5 dob. Eye relief is a little tight for eyeglass wearers in my opinion but I am able to use it without my glasses with no problem. The 19 mm is also fairly small in size, and fairly light, which encourages me to use it more, since balance is really not a problem. This eyepiece turns out to be just right in both my 12.5" dob and the 4" Mak for nebula, galaxy, and globular hunting. M13 is amazing through this eyepiece, resolving stars to the core. Barlow it and your jaw will drop. With a FOV of 68 degrees it perfectly frames the full moon in my F5 scope. It will serve you well if you have an F5 or slower scope, and it has excellent edge sharpness. It is more expensive than a Meade 18mm SWA or a Celestron 19mm Axiom but try those in an f/5 scope and they don't even compare.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
If you have been contemplating the purchase of this eyepiece, I highly recommend it. The 19mm Panoptic gets an A+ for contrast, edge of field sharpness, and its ability to be barlowed. This eyepiece is hard to beat.Sort bySpecifications
