Manufacturer Description

The Tele Vue 24mm Panoptic eyepiece - a Sky & Telescope "Hot Product" - is designed to produce the largest true field possible in a 1.25" eyepiece. Its 27mm field stop is the same as the 32mm Tele Vue Plossl. The higher power darkens the sky background while the greater magnification yields more details on extended objects. Further, its light weight (0.5lb.), comfortable 15mm eye relief, and tapered top instantly make the 24mm Panoptic the ideal eyepiece for getting the maximum field for binocular viewers!

The Tack-Sharp, Long Eye-Relief 68 degree Field Eyepiece
With the Panoptic series, Tele Vue has taken the Wide-Field concept to Nagler-like performance levels - A meaningful advance over any eyepiece in its 68° field class.

All Tele Vue Panoptic eyepieces have proprietary tuned full multi-coatings, blackened lens edges, high index glasses, fold-down eyeguards, rubber grip rings, cover for the eyeguard, an undercut in the barrel for extra locking security, and filter threads. All Tele Vue eyepiece lines are proprietary, in-house designs manufactured to their specifications and tolerances. Every eyepiece is individually tested at Tele Vue to ensure it meets high optical and cosmetic standards.

Concept: Using my Wide-Field design as a starting point, I looked to bring Nagler-like performance to the 60+° field class with the Panoptic series. The idea of a lens to "interface" between the eyepiece and Barlow struck me as the proper way to keep size, weight and cost to a minimum while improving edge of field performance even further. I later developed this idea into the Powermates. — Al Nagler

5.0 GREAT Eyepiece - GREAT delivery time !!

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I Ordered this through Agena Astro. Received it in the mail TWO days later! Great service !! This eyepiece is the BEST I've ever used.
(I have the Skywatcher 10 inch DOB - Fast - 4.7 ratio) Crystal clear - and Unbelievable contrast with this eyepiece. Don't bother getting two eyepieces for lower and higher (or mid) power. Just save up and GET THIS EYEPIECE !!! (no I don't work for Televue - I'm just blown away by this eyepiece!)

      Pros:

      Lightweight,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

I use a pair of these in my binoviewer. They are very comfortable and give great low power views. Excellent optical quality and well worth the money.

      5.0 24mm Tele Vue Panoptic

      Pros:

Edge performance, compact size, immersive field of view, and good eye relief.

      Cons:

      Expensive, some minor pincushion.

      Comments:

The 24mm Panoptic is an excellent combination of performance and comfort in a very convenient and compact size. It's a bit expensive, but packs almost the maximum possible field of view for a 1.25" focuser into a size small enough to use for binoviewing.

I've used this eyepiece in both an f/5 and f/6 Dobsonian and it was sharp from almost edge to edge in both scopes (I should note that I always use a Tele Vue Paracorr with the f/5 scope). Eye relief was also comfortable, although the stated 16mm is likely measured from the center of the concave lens which makes actual distances at the edges of the eye lens a bit less. Some pincushion is noticeable when panning star fields, but I don't find it to be an issue during most deep sky viewing.

And wow, the views were very immersive! The 68 degree field covers a nice patch of sky and the magnification is almost perfect for most larger deep space object in both my scopes.

Unfortunately, I recently sold my 24mm Panoptic to fund another astronomy purchase. But I still have a place in my eyepiece case for it. Well, actually for two 24mm Panoptics, because I know it's just a matter of time before I succumb to a binoviewer...

      5.0 TeleVue Panoptic 24mm

      Pros:

Very best 1.25" EP, 68degree FOV, excellent quality, nice eye relief.

      Cons:

      Expensive.

      Comments:

This wonderful Televue eyepiece was loaned to me at a recent star party and was used in my LX-90 8" f/10 SCT. It is probably the best 1.25" eyepiece on the market today. I was blown away with the views it gave me with only a 1.25" barrel.

Clusters, nebulas, and galaxies were superb, with stars being tack sharp from edge to edge. To be very picky, the last 5% might have shown some elongation on some stars but it didn't bother the performance of this eyepiece at all. It had top notch contrast and minimal color, or none at all. I considered this Pan 24mm to be distortion free with very black backgrounds.

The cost new is $295, and it has a FOV of 68 degrees. Eye relief is a decent 16mm with full multi-coating. It has 6 glass elements and the weight comes in at 1/2 pound which is not bad on most scopes.

If you have deep pockets and are staying away from the more expensive 2" eyepieces, this may be the top of the line for you. Excellent performance in my f/10 scope.

      5.0 24mm PANOPTIC EYEPIECE

      Pros:

The best 1.25 inch wide field available when all things are considered

      Cons:

I have yet to find any

      Comments:

Simply put - a killer widefield eyepiece. Like looking out of the front viewing screen of the Star Trek space ship Enterprise. It produces the widest true field of view of any mass produced 1.25 inch eyepiece. Tack sharp with tons of contrast. Build quality is beyond reproach. Aberration correction is fantastic.
