      4.0 Tele Vue Eyepiece Case

Good size, well made, flexible arrangement

Not for cold weather, Foam wears with heavy use

      Eyepiece Carry Bag $135.00 - Available - TeleVue #ECB-0010

The Tele Vue eyepiece carry bag is a soft case with semi-rigid foam that can carry up to 13 eyepices and a couple filters or small Barlow. The outside of the case is 21" L x 9" W x 6" D with a carrying handle and adjustable shoulder strap making it convenient to travel with. Inside the case has a great deal of flexibility with severl dual-size holes and the foam is split vertically within several of these holes so you can carry eyepieces like the Pentax XL series fully protected. i.e. the bottom half is 1.25" while the top half of the hole accomdates the larger size of the Pentax XL/XW. The foam is very good at protecting the eyepieces in normal temperatures as it's a semi-rigid closed cell foam. Not as soft as that seen in many of the usual cases but not as hard as the foam seen in many custom cases like Coronados.

The nylon exterior of the bag cleans easily and wears well. Inside there's a clear sleeve built into the top for marking which eyepiece is in which hole. This is handy if you swap eyepieces and don't have the caps marked since the eyepieces are stored vertically. Unfortunately this can cause problems in the dark if you move the eyepieces around.

The holes are cut fairly tight and hold the eyepieces in place very well. Becuase of the tight fit and semi-rigid foam, if you use end caps on the field end of your eyepiece the cap tends to stay in the case, held by the foam, when you remove the eyepiece. Personally I like this because I only remove eyepieces to use them and don't want the 1.25" or 2" cap on the field end of the eyepiece anyway. It also prevents loosing them. Other don't like the idea that the cap is 'stuck' in the bottom. An issue I have found is the foam becomes very hard in cold weather. Below 32F (0C) the foam becomes too hard to be manipulated and maeks removing or inserting eyepieces next to impossible without damaging the foam.

One thing I found the case excellent for is carrying 1/2 a dozen eyepieces and my Takahasahi FC-60E. Using purchased 2" thick foam I cut it to fit the case then made a cutout for the Tak FC-60E and 6 holes for 0.965" & 1.25" eyepieces. Because the case is larger than most eyepiece case, it handles the scope and eyepieces nicely and makes and excellent traveling rig.

Overall the case is large but easy to use and great protection for your eyepieces. Almost all the common eyepeices I've tried fit in the case. Some of the very small 0.965" and very large like the Lietz 30mm 88° do not fit well but almost everything else does. It's also nice to have space for binoviewer and Barlow.
