About Thousand Oaks Optical's Solar Eclipse Glasses

Thousand Oaks Optical's exclusive high quality black polymer substrates provide superior safety features, sharper solar images, and pleasing orange solar image. All solar eclipse viewers meet CE/ISO safety requirements. The transmission is 1/1,000th of 1% (Optical Density OD 5). More than 20 million of their solar viewers and glasses have been sold over the years.

Dimensions: Full card: 3" x 5" (76mm x 125mm); Viewing substrate area: 1" x 3.86" (25.4mm x 98mm). Made of sturdy paperboard.

About Thousand Oak's Solar Film Used in These Glasses

BLACK POLYMER: Exclusive Thousand Oaks Optical formula developed solely for SAFE solar observation. Unlike metallized Mylar (commonly used in food packaging), this polymer film gives a SHARP pleasing orange image versus unnatural pale blue. Mylar also reflects your eyes in the mirror like surface making it difficult to see the sun. And contrary to claims by some manufacturers, two layers does not guarantee no pinholes in the coatings. Simply hold a Mylar viewer at arms length, close to a light bulb, to see this defect. The protective properties of this Black Polymer are throughout the substrate so there is never a concern about safety.

About the Company

Thousand Oaks Optical is a leading US-based manufacturer of solar filters and films. They have been making these products for over 35 years, and their products have been used by NASA aboard the Space Shuttle. Other professional users include: ABC, BBC CBS, NBC, CNN, NOVA, The Discovery Channel, National Geographic and most major universities and observatories throughout the world.

Warning

Never look at the sun without special eye protection. When viewing the eclipse, use this viewer at all times when any part of the sun is visible. For direct, unmagnified viewing only. Do not look into an unfiltered telescope with this viewer.

5.0 Came in time for the eclipse!

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I bought a set of eclipse viewing cards and was worried they might not come in time for the eclipse in August, but I ordered them a week ahead and they came in four days. I also had to shop around for hours, calling local stores and trying to find online stores that still had glasses or cards in stock, and Agena was the only place I found that had them still in stock and at a fair price. I ended up having to get the five pack but it was worth it. Thanks!

      5.0 Worked great

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Bought these for the Great American Eclipse. They worked great. I bought these cards instead of glasses thinking it would be better for kids whose faces and heads may be too small for the glasses. Don't know if that was the case but kids did great with these. Also good for people with glasses. Additionally, I think it made it easier to share since it's a simple card you just hold up without having to hook them behind ear, etc. we shared among lots of people.

AgenaAstro was also terrific in providing quick shipping and service.

      5.0 Affordable, Quality Solar Viewer

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Purchased a 25 pack and crimped a metal eyelet for each so a lanyard could be attached. Better solution for eyeglass wearers. Thousand Oaks solar products are top-notch. I have purchased other glass solar filters from Thousand Oaks in the past for camera lens and telescope and I can attest to the quality of this company's offerings.

4.0 Thousand Oaks Optical's Solar Eclipse Viewr Cards

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

These "glasses" are great to use as handouts at solar viewing sessions. I purchased a few to try them out and immediately placed an order for more.

The Thousand Oaks film gives a pleasing orange rendition of the sun. These cards are much easier to use than the ones shaped like glasses.

I punch a small hole in a corner and run a ribbon through it so the card can be conveniently hung around one's neck.

4.0 Wow! I've never seen the sun like that!

      Pros:

      Compact,Lightweight,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

I knew this was a great product before I purchased it, because several amateur astronomers were giving them away at a public solar observing event I went to. I really like how these are able to be used even with regular glasses. Works exactly as advertised to see the sun in its glorious detail!
