Product Info
Manufacturer Description
The Vixen Mini-Porta comes equipped with two fine adjustment handles for whole circle slow motion in both directions, very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects. In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. Its gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by simply turning the elevation and or azimuth control handles. The World-Standard dovetail attachment system on PORTA was developed by Vixen. This allows the PORTA to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.

Mar 30, 2013Not bad
Pros:Easy to Use,Compact,Lightweight
Cons:Unstable
Comments:I purchased this mount for my ST80 after getting fed up with the tabletop mount that I used to have the scope on. First off, let me say, this is not the most stable mount ever. If you're looking for something capable of holding the scope steady for high-power views of objects, this probably isn't going to me the mount for you. If, however, you are looking for something light weight to grab and run with a small scope, this isn't a bad choice. My ST80 (upgraded with a heavy crayford focuser), is right at the weight limit for this mount. As long as I use low magnifications for wide-field views (what the ST80 is intended for anyway), the mount is fine. It lives in my car's trunk, so I can just grab my little scope and go. The one thing to be warned about with this mount is that the slow motion controls are terrible. Do yourself a favor, and replace them immediately. They don't attach securely to the mount and will fall off when in use. Overall, for this price this isn't a bad grab and go mount, as long as you don't expect too much.
