Manufacturer Description
What's the difference between Tall and Tall+ versions of the Vixen Porta II Mount?
The Tall mount (this item) has high quality short knobs. The Tall plus has higher end long flexible knobs. The regular Porta II mount has the cheaper long slow motion cable, but they are not as nice at the type on the Tall plus.
The best Grab and Go Alt Az Mount! Vixen's Porta II Tall Mount is a solid alt-azimuth mount with a 20lb payload capacity and features high quality slow motion flexible handles to minimize vibrations and keep your view sharp. This is very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects.
The extra height on this Tall+ mount, made possible by pairing the Porta II mount head with the Vixen AL-150 aluminum tripod, makes it ideal for long refractors or taller individuals.
The BBC Sky at Night magazine says: "When moving the telescope around the sky with this mount, we found any vibrations quickly dampened down. The whole system was very stable, even when the tripod was at its maximum extended height." The mount head is easily removed to allow for a switch to a different compatible tripod. In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. With no locks or clutches, the gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by turning the elevation and/or azimuth control handles.
The world-standard dovetail attachment system on the PORTA II mount was developed by Vixen. This allows the PORTA II to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.

High magnifications made easy.
Pros: Cons: Comments:Moving around the Moon at high magnifications is just so smooth and easy with my 90mm SCT. My longer tube ES 102 @ f6.5 and 10.4 pounds has a slight shake during focus, but views are steady. Best part is that, unlike go to mounts, you can vary the slew speed on a whim without having to select a speed on a hand controller.

Jan 17, 2017Best Alt AZ Mount
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is an incredible mount. The best Alt AZ mount I have ever seen. It is very sturdy, yet lightweight. The entire mount and tripod weigh 13.5 pounds.

Dec 24, 2016Excellent Alt-Az mount
Pros: Cons: Comments:This mount is light to carry and easy to set up. Just right for small Refractors Like my Tele vue 85.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Mine worked fine right out of the box but it comes with Allen wrenches to adjust the tension if you
needed to.
I would highly recommend this mount. I got the tall so I can use it with my C-102 also which is
about 38 inches long. Also at the Vixen Porta II website there is an online manual for the mount.
